Bac-Avo (Bacon + Avocado = Bac-Avo!)
pronounced buh-cov-o
(Thanks for help with the name Mom)

We’ve all had those delicious burgers at local burger joints that were topped with thick pieces of bacon and sliced avocado. But the awesomeness that happens when you chop the bacon and avocado and mix it in the ground beef, is taste bud exploding!
Now before we move any further with the recipe, I should mention that there is a little SECRET ingredient in these burgers, which is essential in creating a juicy burger.
The secret ingredient is …. minced mushrooms!

Now wait, wait, WAIT a minute, before I run you MUSHROOM HATERS off, please hear me out.
The mushrooms are your basic button mushrooms, which is mild tasting when eaten alone, and non- existent in these burgers. The reason they are so essential in these Bac-Avo burgers (bacon, avocado burgers), is because it adds juiciness to the burger patties.
I’ll be the first one to tell you that…
Mushroom haters, won’t know! I’m telling you, my kids hate mushrooms, and they can’t even taste them in these.
Why? Because you can not taste, see, or even smell them in these burgers. They literally disappear into juicy, goodness in these Bac-Avo burgers.
So please, please… don’t omit the mushrooms! Just trust me- your bacon, avocado burgers NEED this!

How to make Bac-Avo Burgers (Bacon + Avocado Burgers)
Printable recipe to follow.
1. Take 5 button mushrooms and finely dice them (or mince). I use my Pampered Chef food chopper (affiliate link), which is amazing!!
Add finely diced mushrooms to your mixing bowl.

Finely dicing the mushrooms is key to not tasting or seeing them. The finely diced mushrooms become almost apart of the meat once combined.
2. Finely Dice 1/2 pack of raw bacon.
I would NOT substitute for turkey bacon here. You need good old-fashioned pork bacon, in all of it’s greasy, juicy glory. Trust me!
Add the finely diced bacon to the finely diced mushrooms in your mixing bowl.

3. Add ONE egg to the mushroom – bacon mixture.

Crack one egg and add it to your mushroom – bacon mixture. Combine until well mixed.
The reason we start combining now, (before adding the ground beef), is that we don’t want to overwork the ground beef and make our burgers tough.

4. Add seasonings – 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons dried onion flakes, 1 teaspoon granulated garlic.
Add the seasonings to the mixture.

Mix everything together really well.

5. Add 1 lb of ground beef

Add the ground beef to your pre-mixed mixture and mix it ever so carefully. You don’t want to overwork your meat as it will make your burgers tough.

6. Add one diced avocado

Scoop the pit out, dice your avocado and add it to the meat mixture. Be very gentle as you incorporate the avocado so that the avocado will stay in diced form.

7. Form into patties and cook

I like to cook mine in my Presto Electric Skillet (affiliate link). If I’m using a frying pan, cast iron or an electric skillet, I will always cook these patties in some melted butter.

If I choose to grill these burgers on the grill, I grill them around 325 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Cook the patties a bit low at first to make sure the bacon cooks through, and then turn up the heat to brown both sides.
I like to place the lid on my electric skillet for the first few minutes while cooking these Bac-Avo burgers.

And viola! Your Bac-Avo (bacon + avocado) burgers are done!

How to eat these Bac-Avo (Bacon + Avocado) Burgers?
Well, I personally enjoy eating them alone as a meat patty (without a bun). They are so good by themselves that you don’t even miss the burger bun.
Buuuuut… if you must use a burger bun, I’d top this with Bac-Avo burger with mayo, lettuce, and cheese. Sorry, I’m a tomato hater. But grilled or raw onions would also be pretty dandy on these. Just remember that they are already so flavor-packed, you won’t need to spruce these up much.
