Summertime is right around the corner, and that means it’s time for me to switch from my spring living room decor, now to summer home decor! This year I chose a bright and cheery color scheme, full of pinks and yellows and of course, I couldn’t forget the black and white stripes.
Taking a quick trip down memory lane, when we first bought our fixer-upper farmhouse, our living room looked like this…
“Before” Living room remodel

Yeah, not the prettiest living room to tickle your fancy, but it had potential, and I’ve enjoyed decorating our newly remodeled living room with each changing season and holidays.
But that’s enough ugly for one day; let’s jump in to my summer home decor!
Summer Home Decor
My Bright and Cheery Living Room

I knew that I wanted something really bright this year for my summer living room decor. I decided to splurge and buy myself a new rug for the living room to focus the decor around. I’ve been eyeballing this rug for a year, and I finally caved when I decided it would be the perfect touch for my summery home decor.

When doing any sort of home decorating, I always center my decor theme around a focal point item, such as a rug, picture or throw pillows. So after purchasing this new bright and colorful rug, I decided to go with pink, yellow and turquoise for the summer living room decor color scheme.

I added a few little fun touches to the top of the piano vignette. I found a mini sign that says, “Farm sweet farm” at the Dollar Tree!

I also found some really ugly faux cactus plants in ugly, orange terracotta pots on clearance for under $2 at Hobby Lobby. I bought them and had Mr. Hubs spray paint them gold for me.

And because a part of the bright and cheery color scheme was yellow, I thought that adding lemons in a few places would be super cute. You know, lemons – lemonade -summery – summertime-bright-cheery…? Totally summer-ish!

Another thing I did to switch up the decor in my living room, is I covered my black and white damask stool with a white furry rug. I just pinned it on the sides like a faux “slip-cover”, and there ya have it!

I’m still in love with my blue painted piano, and I love how it always seems to incorporate well with my ever changing decor.
Oh, and that paper tassel that I have hanging from my black and white striped mirror is from the Dollar Tree. You guys, the Dollar Tree is really stepping up their game in awesomeness. I love finding random decor there.

I can’t forget the pillows, as I’m a big softy for pillows, it might even be a problem. Like a, ” Hi, my name is Cherelle and I’m addicted to buying throw pillows” sort of problem.
As you’ve seen from my other home decor posts (like my spring, Christmas, and fall decor), I am always changing out my pillows. My mom recently asked me, ” Don’t you have enough pillows yet?!”.
I said… “NOPE!”.
Black and white stripes will always have my heart, and I love putting them in any room I can. For my pillows I chose a few black and white striped ones, some yellow velvet ones and then a white with colorful tassels. Lovin it! ?

Now onto the summer fireplace and fireplace mantle decor.

Yup, still no wood stove insert, so we’re still rocking the hanging curtains to cover up the huge, gaping hole!

I added some greenery, pink flowers, another tassel garland and a little mini lemonade mock up.

In the above picture, the room to the right with the black and white striped curtains, that room is what we call the “sitting room”, although we don’t do much “sitting” in it. It’s technically, the actual dining room in our house, but it didn’t feel right as a dining room, so we made it into a sitting room. It’s still not finished being decorated because I haven’t felt anything has been “right” for it yet. I’ll keep ya posted on that room!
Well, that’s it for my bright and cheery summer home decor. I hope you enjoyed it and maybe got a little inspiration for your own homes! Have fun with the ever-changing seasons and do a little decorating.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised how changing up a room can make your house feel new again. It doesn’t have to cost much, as you can get pretty D.I.Y and make a lot of decor yourself, paint things, etc.
Have fun!
