This Funky DIY Bookcase Makeover was actually done months ago. It’s been one of those projects that I photographed, but never posted on the blog and just sort of forgot about it.
Well, here we are today and I’m going to show it to you. This was a super simple and random project that I did.
One thing you MUST know about me- I always have this overwhelming desire for change. I like to change out houses, cars, ideas, my home decor and much more. I change about everything besides my kids and husband. HA!
So, if you come to my house one week, you might find ” X ” in the living room and it might be black. Then, if you come back the next month, you might that same ” X ” in the bathroom, painted green. It’s just how I am, and it’s the frugal side of me that keeps things fresh and exciting to keep up with my ever changing ideas.
Right now as I am writing this, I am contemplating painting a mirror in my kitchen black. It would be that same mirror, that made its first debut in my post, ” How To Faux Antique “. It started out in my living room over the fireplace, then moved to the sitting room, and now it’s in the kitchen ( about to be painted black? ).
I’m a little crazy, I know!
Now that you know my deepest, darkest, secret, ( not really )… you will understand why I wanted to change the black bookcase ( that’s been in my life for years ) to something more fun.
Here was the bookcase before:
( Don’t mind the mess. This picture was taken when we were in the midst of one million house projects and still had stuff EVERYWHERE! Also, this is after I changed the knobs on the bookcase to gold. The original knobs were pull tab type and silver. I bought the gold ones at HomeGoods. )
My original plan for my DIY bookcase makeover was to paint the bookcase white in Faux Antique style. But then I changed my mind ( go figure ) and decided to add some pops of color to the backing of the bookcase instead.
I went through my stash of random paints and started mixing until I got the right hues I wanted.
Once the two paint colors were mixed:
After mixing these, it was still too ” blue-blue ” and not enough ” greenish-blue ” for my liking. Enter in greens and gold to the mix:
Now that the paints were mixed, I added white paint sporadically to the backing of the bookcase:
Next, I did the same thing with the mixed blue color I made, and also some of the darker blue for good contrast:
Once I felt it was all evenly painted with each color, I added more white:
( for some reason I did not pay attention to my picture taking and this photo came out super blurry, sorry! )
Then lastly, for a WAM, BAM, funky-pop of awesomeness… I added some metallic gold:
And now here she is.. my Funky DIY Bookcase Makeover For Cheap:
( currently in the dining room, but you never know where she’ll end up next )
And Mother, I already know what you’re gonna say. ” Cherelle, you should have dusted the bookcase before you took pictures of it! “. And well, my excuse to that is:
Run two businesses..
Have Church multiple times a week..
Have to make meals and pick up the house..
Aint nobody got time for dustin’ a bookcase! Haha, love ya!
