I’ve been using the wallet cash divider/cash envelope system for a few years now, and love it!
It’s basically where you turn, this…

Into this!

If you’re anything like me, you love carrying cash in your wallet. Even better, you love using cash to make purchases!
There’s just something about knowing exactly how much you have to spend, and once it’s gone… it’s gone! There’s no wondering how much you swiped on the debit card during the week, or how much you spent on groceries, or, or, or!
But how exactly do you make a cash envelope, and use the envelope system, you might be wondering.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you, friend!
How to make a cash system for your wallet
Dave Ramsey talks about the cash envelope system for keeping track of your money in your wallet, which is wonderful!
However, I wanted something quicker and easily accessible to where I didn’t have to open the flap on an envelope (as some cash envelopes have), so I wanted to make a “money divider” of sorts instead.
You can think of these wallet cash dividers as little tiny file folders for your money.
Plus, when adding labels to the tops of the tabbed dividers, your wallet will be super organized and you’ll know what is what.
No more money from this, and money for that, and money to spend here and there all shoved in one part of your wallet.
Say bye-bye to the cash chaos, and hello to the cash organization!
How to make a Money wallet divider
Thanks to my nifty printable wallet cash dividers, these cash envelopes will come together rather quickly. With no special tools required! Because, you know, we all don’t have a Cricut machine.
How to make cash envelopes
Again, these aren’t “real” envelopes for your cash, but rather, cash dividers, and here’s how you can make them in minutes!
1. Print off my free printable for the reusable cash envelopes

Use my cash divider templates to make your very own reusable wallet cash dividers.
Just download the templates, print, and cut the templates out!
2. Choose your paper

I wanted to go with fun, girly and bold patterns and colors for my money dividers.
I knew I wanted 10 cash dividers, and I was also making some for my mom, so I chose 10 different papers total.
I was able to get two cash envelopes cut out from one piece of scrapbook paper. Woohoo!
Make sure you choose a paper that’s a bit sturdy. Scrapbooking paper works great, and have fun choosing your colors and patterns!
3. Make your wallet dividers

Lay the printable cash envelope template on the opposite side of your your choice of paper.
**To make cutting easier for me, I placed the template as close to the edge of the paper, so I would have to make fewer cuts.
Because this girl, little ol’ me, is not a straight cutter. Apparently, I didn’t pass “cutting skills” in kindergarten.
Trace along the template with a pencil and then use scissors to cut out your wallet divider.
4. Fold your wallet cash dividers in half

Next, you are going to fold your dividers in half. Easy peasy!
5. Label your wallet cash dividers

This is where the fun organization comes in.
Grab a handy dandy label maker, like our favorite one HERE, and print off labels and place them on the divider’s tabs. Or you can just handwrite on the tabbed dividers.
6. Organize your money!
Place your money in the correct wallet dividers by their budget category, and pat yourself on the back!
Note: I don’t use these DIY cash dividers for cash only. I have one for my receipts, punch cards, etc., so you can get pretty creative here!
You can even add a credit card or debit card to your dividers, too, if you don’t like having your cards in the card slots!
And, that’s it for the Easy DIY Wallet Cash Dividers!

Don’t want to make your own cash envelope system, for your cash budgeting?

Here are some great systems for organizing your cash in your wallet
Buy a SavvyCents wallet!
The SavvyCents wallets have the cash dividers already built into the wallet, which is awesome! This Savvy Cents wallet has a zipper instead of the typical snap closure, so your cash can be nice and safe in there.
This is a great and functional idea for those just wanting an all-around wallet that comes ready to go.
Try a MagicFly Cash Envelope Wallet
The MagicFly cash envelope wallet is really cool! It has mini binder clips in there and comes with different waterproof envelopes to hook into the wallet.
Zippered Envelope
Some might want their cash placed in a zippered envelope instead of dividers, which is great when wanting to add every penny (literally) to one budget area. If that’s you, these ones will work perfectly for your wallet!
Clear Vinyl Envelopes (zippered pouch)
I think these clear vinyl envelopes look pretty cool! This envelope system works great because again, you can add your coins to each budget section. You can also have them labeled too!
