If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you might have picked up that I love decorating my house for the ever changing seasons or Holidays.
Now, as much as I was super sad to remove my Summery Home decor, I knew it was time to whip out the fall decor.
First stop… my living room!
Fall Decorating with Black and White Buffalo Check
in my living room
As like any other time that I like to switch up the décor in my living room, I always start out with three main pieces to help set the mood.
The three main pieces I choose to help me design my living room home decor:
Black and white buffalo Check Rug
I came across this black and white buffalo check area rug at Home Depot and just knew it would be perfect for my Fall living room decor! Believe it or not, but Home Depot has some cute rugs!
I knew with this rug being black and white buffalo check, that I’d be able to use it interchangeably with other seasons throughout the year, which is a big plus when I choose to buy an area rug.
Here are some similar black and white buffalo check area rugs:
Black and White Buffalo Check Curtains
For the curtains for my fall living room décor, I was really in a pickle. I knew I wanted something that would stand out against our white farmhouse planked walls, but I also knew I wanted it to be rather neutral-ish. BTW— black is always neutral in my book.
I went to three or four different home décor stores looking for the perfect curtains that would compliment the Fall feel I wanted for the living room, yet also not clash with the rug. I was searching high and low for a robin’s egg colored curtains, or something frilly and cute, but the stores were bare! And I mean, BARE!
I finally decided to try one last store, and thankfully I found something! My first idea wasn’t to get black and white buffalo check curtains for my fall living room decor, however, I knew it would match super cutely with the new black and white buffalo check rug, so I settled on those!
My Fall Living Room décor Pillows
I’m not sure if I was just being overly picky for this years Fall living room décor, or what, but I had the hardest time settling on pillows.
I wanted to go rather neutral in my living room for fall this year, so I didn’t want super bold pillows, yet, I did want them to slightly pop off our neutral colored couch.
I found the big white and black striped ones first, and then found the two velvet blue ones and the center pillow at yet another store!
I’m telling ya, shopping for my seasonal décor, is always a big deal around here for me, and I will keep browsing stores until I have it right!
I love how the center pillow is neutral, yet it has pumpkins on it for fall, and my blue colors! Woo hoo!
My Piano all decorated for fall
I seriously love my painted piano. It’s a robin’s egg blue and distressed, and I just love the huge pop of color it adds to my living room.
Not to mention, my painted piano is the perfect space for a bunch of decorations for any season, so I always have fun coming up with what I want to add to to the top of it.
Because I already splurged this fall season on a brand new area rug, curtains and pillows, I wanted to utilize the fall décor I already had from previous years, so I just did a little bit of this and a little bit of that to create a simple, yet pretty decorated fall piano.
Fall Decorated Fireplace Mantle
Basically, I have a love/hate relationship with my fireplace area.
I love that the fireplace is painted white so it helps brighten up my small living room, but I hate how it has all these ridiculous holes on it everywhere from where there once was some sort of (something???) associated with an old fireplace at some point in this house’s 80 years of life.
Therefore, my fireplace has some eye sores on it. In my honest opinion!
Either way, I have to make do with what we have and I just try and roll with it.
For my fall decorated fireplace mantle I did greenery, a bunch of pumpkins and a few hydrangeas, a few pops of black and white check.
On the sides of my fireplace, I added a cute little fall décor wagon filled with greenery and a pumpkin and then on the right side I made this cute pumpkin topiary of sorts.
I got this brilliant inspiration idea from Coco over at The Crowned Goat, however, hers was much cuter!! I had to make mine with remnants of greenery and bits I had left in my décor bins. Maybe next year I’ll buy new greenery and make a prettier fall décor piece.
Orange and Yellow Fall Decor in my sitting room
I’m unsure as to when we dubbed this room as the, “sitting room”, but that’s what we have called it for a while now, even though we don’t do much sitting in it 😂. It’s more of a “passing through” room, but oh well!
In our “sitting room”, we have one chair for ya know, sitting, and then an old dresser turned hutch, up against the windows. I use this hutch to store things in it, and I can decorate the hutch top quite dandily.
For my fall decor in the sitting room, I used oranges and a bit of yellows, some pumpkins, a few signs, and some other cute little thingy ma-jigs.
I love how my leopard print rug gives this room a nice pop of boldness.
If you remember from when we first remolded our mudroom, this leopard print rug made its debut in there.

Burgundy, pink and gold Fall Decor in my kitchen
At the end of the day, I was just OVER decorating my house for fall, yet I didn’t want to put off my kitchen for another day, so my kitchen was kind of, “thrown together”.
I still haven’t come across a centerpiece I like for my kitchen island, so for now, fresh flowers will do!
I like to keep my kitchen countertops pretty bare, so I only did minimal fall decorating in kitchen.
